Contract Awarded For Hawkesbury & District General Hospital Redevelopment Project

HAWKESBURY – Hawkesbury & District General Hospital and Infrastructure Ontario announced today that the hospital has signed a fixed-price contract with Bondfield Construction, to build and finance the hospital’s expansion and redevelopment project. Today’s announcement also signifies that all contractual steps have been completed and Bondfield will begin to mobilize on site immediately.

The project includes a combination of renovations and new construction at the hospital. Newly built features will include:

  • a consolidated ambulatory care centre that will include specialty clinics, hemodialysis, cardiology services and medical day care
  • an expanded complex continuing care unit
  • a new perioperative department
  • expansion of emergency services
  • expansion of the intensive care unit
  • redevelopment of the family birthing unit
  • additional acute care inpatient beds

Major renovations to the existing hospital will accommodate:

  • a new mental health in-patient unit
  • an expanded medical-surgical unit
  • expanded diagnostic services
  • a new operating room

The Hawkesbury & District General Hospital project underwent an open, fair and competitive procurement process and Bondfield Construction submitted the proposal which delivers the best value for Ontario taxpayers.

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will work with Hawkesbury & District General Hospital to manage the renovation and new construction at the hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable.

The contract commits Bondfield Construction to build and finance the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital expansion and redevelopment project for $125.7 million, which will be paid by the hospital when construction is completed. The contract guarantees a fixed price and a fixed delivery date for the expansion and redevelopment of the hospital. IO is a crown agency of the Province of Ontario that works to deliver public benefits through partnerships with the private sector. IO delivers large, complex public infrastructure projects using a made-in-Ontario modern procurement and project management practice called Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP). IO also partners with the private sector to manage one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, provides municipalities and eligible public sector clients with loans to renew public infrastructure, and leverages its private-sector expertise to advise the provincial public sector clients on commercial transactions.
