  • Aftereffects of infectious or inflammatory disease, for example poliomyelitis or rheumatoid arthritis
  • Joint replacement surgery, including hip and knee replacement

How to access our services?

  • You must have a referral from your physician to book an appointment at the Orthopedics Clinic.

About The Program

Before your appointment

  1. Your physician will fax us a request.
  2. We will call you to schedule an appointment. It may take a few weeks or up to several months before we call you, depending on the availability of specialists.
  3. Depending on the reason for your consultation (cast, removal of sutures, traction), we may recommend that you bring some equipment or material with you such as crutches, dressing, etc.

What to bring

  • Valid Health Card
  • List of all your medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal medicines

When you arrive

  • Please use the Main Entrance and register at one of the self-serve kiosks at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Clerks are available to help with the registration process.
  • Take a pager when registering. It will buzz and light up when your turn comes up and indicate in which room to report.
  • Room numbers and other public interest messages are presented on the TV screens.

Initial consultation before a surgery

  • A nurse will review and update your medical record and perform a general health assessment.
  • You will then meet the surgeon, who will assess the need for surgery and answer your questions.
  • If surgery is needed, your surgeon will explain the recommended surgical procedure and discuss health risks and benefits.
  • If you wish to proceed with the surgery, the hospital will initiate the booking process. Your surgery will be performed in one of the operating rooms in Perioperative Services.

Booking surgery date

  • After the initial consultation with the surgeon, we will call you to book a pre-operative clinic appointment and confirm the date of your surgery.
  • It could take several weeks or months before we call you to confirm dates. The wait time for your surgery will depend on the priority code assigned to your case. Urgent cases are treated first.
  • During the booking call, we will let you if any test is required prior to your surgery. We will also give you preparation instructions for your surgery.

Results and follow-ups

  • The surgeon will send a report to your family physician or referring health care provider.
  • Results will also be available in your electronic medical record. For information on the creation of an account and how to access your electronic medical record, visit MyChart.
  • We will call you to book an appointment if a follow-up is required.
