MEDIA RELEASE

More advanced CT technology available to the residents of Prescott-Russell

HAWKESBURY — The Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) is proud to offer access to cutting-edge medical imaging technology, closer to home, for the residents of Prescott-Russell and surrounding areas. This 128-slice CT scan model, valued at $2.5 million dollars, is installed in only two other Canadian institutions and HGH is the first within Eastern Canada to use this latest technology.

There are many benefits for patients with the use of this new sophisticated equipment:

  • Clearer images showing fine details allowing the detection of most serious diseases and disorders such as pulmonary embolisms. Strokes, head and neck traumas can be discovered in a matter of minutes, saving lives.
  • Less radiation is emitted and the examinations are less invasive thereby making them more comfortable and better for the patient.

The CT scan has been in use for the past several weeks. A team of radiologists and highly specialized technologists have been trained to read the images and operate the new CT scanner located in their new modern premises within the hospital. HGH’s wait time for a CT scan is minimal, currently less than 5 days, which is amongst the lowest wait time in the region. For fast results, a patient can obtain an appointment by asking their family physician for a referral to HGH.

The acquisition of this state-of-the-art CT scanner and technology marks an important milestone for the community and is a significant part of HGH’s transformation to a full-service regional community hospital. The purchase of this equipment is the result of community fundraising over the past few years. A sincere thanks and recognition to the HGH Foundation and all donors of the Access 2018 Campaign, who made it happen!
