OPP Investigation at HGH

Press Release

OPP investigation underway

On the evening of March 25, 2021, the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH). An investigation is underway into a number of suspicious deaths. Dr. Brian Nadler, an HGH physician, has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody. All of his HGH privileges have been revoked.

We want to reassure our patients, their families and the community at large that the hospital site is safe. We continue to deliver our programs in a professional and safe environment. All patient services continue to operate in all areas including Medical Imaging, Family Birthing Centre, Emergency Services and Ambulatory Clinics. Patients who need to access services can come to the hospital and keep their appointments.

The Authorities of HGH are fully collaborating with the representatives of the OPP assigned to this investigation. In collaboration with the OPP, we are reaching out to the concerned families. We are equally concerned with our employees and physicians that may be affected by this difficult situation. We are providing them with employee assistance and post-traumatic counselling.

In order to maintain the integrity of the OPP investigation, HGH will not be releasing further information today.
