Chemotherapy refers to a treatment that uses chemical medication. It is used to target cancer cells and stop their growth.

The HGH Chemotherapy Clinic is a satellite service provided by The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

Who do we serve?

  • Adults from Prescott-Russell and surrounding region in Ontario living with these types of cancer: lung, breast, colorectal, stomach and others.

How to access our services?

  • You must have a referral from an oncologist at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

About The Program

Before your appointment

  • The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) will send us a referral for your treatment. Next, we will contact you to book an appointment.
  • The Ottawa Hospital will provide you with information and a video explaining the process. The TOH oncology team, in collaboration with our pharmacist, will answer all your questions before your first treatment.

What to bring

  • Valid Health Card
  • List and bottles of all your medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, herbal medicines and other natural products
  • Depending on your treatment, you may spend from one hour to a full day at HGH. We recommend that you bring the following items:
    • Snacks, lunch and a water bottle
    • Book, tablet, journal, music, headphones, etc.
  • There is free wifi and each treatment station has a television

When you arrive

  • Please use the Main Entrance and register at one of the self-serve kiosks at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Clerks are available to help with the registration process.
  • Upon registering, take a “puck”. It will buzz and light up when your turn comes up and indicate to report to the Medical Day Unit/Oncology located in Block B, Level 1.
  • View a hospital plan.

Preparation and procedure

During your visit, you will meet a team of trained oncologist nurses and a pharmacist. Visits will include:

  • Full physical evaluation
  • Medication review
  • Treatment as prescribed by your oncologist
  • Information on your treatment

Follow-up appointment

If another appointment is needed, the clerk will confirm the date before you leave the hospital.
