We got our quality of life back – thanks to you!

Couple of donors Ronald Gallou and Liane MarchandWe are Ronald Gallou and Liane Marchand. We have received excellent care at the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH), and for that, we are very grateful. It ended a lot of suffering for us and gave us a much better quality of life!  We want to share our story with you to demonstrate the incredible impact your donations are making for HGH’s patients.

We both had hip problems and were in great pain that deeply impacted our ability to function. Even walking had become difficult and every day, simple tasks were a challenge for us; so, we were very anxious to get the care we desperately needed. We were relieved to learn from a friend that a new orthopedic surgery program had started in Hawkesbury. We immediately asked our family doctor to refer us to HGH. We first met with an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Paul E. Beaulé, in the summer of 2020 and had our hip replacement surgeries in January 2021 – both on the same day – at HGH.

The service at HGH was “A1,” as they say. It was truly amazing to be able to undergo the surgery and be at home, in our own bed, that same day. The service was impressive and efficient, and the doctor was there throughout the process. The day of our surgery, Dr. Beaulé came to see us a few times on his own; we didn’t even have to ask for him. All staff demonstrate a great deal of professionalism at HGH and they went out of their way to ensure we were well cared for, both at the hospital, and once we returned home. We are very grateful for their excellent service!

Our experience in some other hospitals was very different. We didn’t feel like a priority, but rather like a number. Our experience at HGH was the opposite. We were well received, and everyone cares for the patients. The staff are very proactive, and they take the time to follow up; they complete the circle of service. This helps patients feel at ease and comfortable. The service is really “wow”!

We have chosen to share our experience with you, because the hip surgery we each received at HGH has quite literally given us our life back. We are both doing very well now and are amazed that this wonderful service we received is available at HGH thanks to the generosity of donors like you. Without your support, we may have waited many more months, or even years, before getting the care we needed.

We know our story is just one example of why continuing to support the HGH Foundation is very important. Donations help support new programs and expand the services offered at HGH. This allows the hospital to continue to meet the growing needs of the population. In our experience, every dollar donated is going to be rewarded at least double – or even triple – when it comes to the service!

Finally, we would like to send a big thank you to Dr. Beaulé and the entire team at HGH!   We are so grateful to them and to you, for helping make HGH’s new orthopedic program a reality.

Thank you for reading our story and thank you for your support towards the HGH Foundation!
