Follow in the footsteps of these amazing philanthropic students

Philanthropy – the feeling of caring for helping others – is important to everyone, no matter how old we are. There are so many ways we can give back to others. Young high school students recently demonstrated the importance of philanthropy and supporting one’s community by organizing a fundraiser for the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation.

On December 10, 2021, from noon to 2:00 p.m., grade 9 and 10 students of the enrichment program (VAA) from the high school, École secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury (ESCRH), did their annual fundraiser in front of various businesses in Hawkesbury. In total, 46 students participated. The students were divided into groups of about 4 students each and were present outside of 11 businesses in Hawkesbury to offer holiday greetings to people in the community and collect monetary donations for the HGH Foundation. We could even hear music playing as we passed by to say hello. Being in a festive mood, some even had fun dancing on the sidewalks. Especially during this difficult pandemic, their good humour and energy were contagious. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for this great initiative!

Thank you to all the businesses who willingly accepted to welcome these young leaders:

  • Sports Experts (Plaza Hawkesbury)
  • Fitlife Gym
  • Jean Coutu Hawkesbury (Main E.)
  • Pizza Pizza Hawkesbury
  • Caisse populaire Desjardins de Hawkesbury
  • Giant Tiger Hawkesbury
  • Le Petit Pain
  • Hawkesbury Shopping Mall
  • McDonald’s Hawkesbury
  • Fresh Co Hawkesbury
  • Staples Hawkesbury

Thank you to R & C Cuerrier Bus Line for the transportation.

A big thank you also to everyone in the community who encouraged the students during their fundraiser. They managed to raise $2,160 in less than two hours! Funds raised will help the HGH Foundation bring state-of-the-art equipment and additional services to HGH.

What a beautiful gesture of kindness and generosity shown by these students and their teachers, Liza Boucher-Sutherland and Isabelle Pageau. Do you find them inspiring? You too could organize your own fundraiser to help support your regional hospital. Are you part of an organization that wants to give back to the community? Do you have a group of friends who would like to work together to organize a fun activity to support a good cause? If so, please consider fundraising for the HGH Foundation. This could be in the form of an event, a simpler activity, or even a product promotion.

If you have a fundraising idea, you can submit it online at Third-Party Events. You may also call 613-632- 1111, extension 21108, if you wish to talk about the details of your activity. The HGH Foundation will offer you as much support as possible. The staff can offer you:

  • Advice on organizing events
  • Advice and assistance in event advertising
  • Information on the HGH Foundation (e.g.: support documents, donation cards, etc.)
  • Additional help on the day of the event
  • And more, depending on available resources

The HGH Foundation will support you in your fundraising. Your time and support are greatly appreciated!

We are so fortunate to have a great hospital close to home, but HGH needs help in order to continue to be able to meet the most pressing and increasing needs of our local population. Your support allows the HGH Foundation to continue to help ensure that the necessary medical equipment is available to meet those health care needs, as this equipment is not funded by the government. Therefore, please know that your generosity makes a real difference in the lives of HGH’s patients and their families.

A big thank you, once again, to the amazing students of ESCRH for their kindness and generosity toward their community and the HGH Foundation!
