It is with much regret that the HGH Foundation learned of the passing of its longtime treasurer and board member, Mr. Don Hay.
Don moved to Vankleek Hill from Montreal after his retirement as a chartered accountant and joined the HGH Foundation Board in 2013. He was elected treasurer in 2014 and was an unwavering source of knowledge, wisdom and integrity for our organization ever since.
Don felt strongly about the importance of contributing to his hospital and he gave endlessly of his time to the HGH Foundation, not only as treasurer and board member, but also sitting on the Executive Committee and presiding over the Finance Committee.
He was the longest standing member of our board and focused his attention these last 11 years on oversight of the Foundation’s finances, integrating strong systems and procedures, and ensuring our efforts were of most benefit to the patients of HGH.
In reality, Don impacted every part of the HGH Foundation universe and all of us in it. He mentored new staff and board members alike and was appreciated and respected by all. His dry sense of humour, in particular, made him so much fun to have around the table. We will miss him greatly.
Don is survived by his three children, Carolyn, Michael and Kenneth and their families. Please follow this link to his obituary.
The family has kindly asked that donations be made in Don’s memory to the HGH Foundation. You may make an online donation.
